MARKET UPDATE 02.28.25

Good afternoon,

Record HIGH temperatures were recorded in Yuma this week. The extra warmth is bringing on ample supplies, keeping market pricing affordable. However, the higher temp is also taking its toll on shelf life. Commodities like BROCCOLI and LETTUCE have less longevity than earlier in the season. Thankfully, relief may not be too far away! The start of this year has passed in a flash as we are only a month away from transitioning to Northern California.

PINEAPPLE supplies remain tight. Significant amounts of rain in Central America has been the main issue over the last several weeks. We are also hearing reports of container delays due to rough ocean conditions. Brix levels are showing inconsistent data in the fields, so shippers will more than likely keep PINEAPPLES in the field longer to develop better flavor. While this market will not make wild swings like we see in veg, there won't be any surplus in availability expected until around Easter.

SQUASH, GREEN BELL PEPPER, and TOMATOES are in great supply here in Florida. We are seeing promotable volumes across all of these items and the cold snap this week should assist in improving quality.

Washington PEARS are beginning to finish up for the season. BOSC pears are nearly non-existent out of the Pacific Northwest and pricing has surged on what remains available. ANJOU PEARS are available and should remain in stock for a while longer but pricing is expected to steadily increase incrementally while supplies last. IMPORT BARTLETT PEARS are available but we often see inconsistencies in quality and sizing. The prettier PEAR out of Washington is still worth the increase in price for now but we will monitor the situation closely.

CELERY continues to be in great supply out of Florida. Contact us for any VOLUME DEALS!

More as it happens,
