MARKET UPDATE 03.31.25

Good afternoon,

ASPARAGUS markets are tight this week as hot conditions in Caborca have impacted production. ASPARAGUS is a huge item for Easter, so demand will remain strong through the month of April. Expect this market to remain snug for the next few weeks.

Chilean STONE FRUIT season is taking a sharp turn towards the finish line. PEACHES are still available but we are beginning to see a decline in shelf life and quality. PLUMS will stick around the longest, typically finishing up sometime in May just before California starts. Next week will be the last week for PEACHES unless some beauties turn up, which is not very likely!

We continue to cautiously tiptoe our way through TRANSITION. Fortunately, there seems to be decent overlap on supplies this season, helping to keep markets in check. Beginning next week, we can finally say that we are entirely switched over to NEW CROP on the major commodities like, BROCCOLI, CAULIFLOWER, LETTUCE, and ROMAINE! No more late season Arizona crop on the high volume goods, YAY! However, some leafy greens, brussels sprouts, cabbages, and the cilantros, parsleys, and kales of the world will have to sit tight for now. Production on those items will have sporadic startups in Salinas California throughout the next month or so.

TOMATO supplies are light in Florida due to a very dry, cool start to spring. Production is also relocating up to the northern part of the state, so we are dealing with some small spot gaps of availability as well. Mexico has been fairly consistent, so as long as Mother Nature complies, we should see markets even out in the next few weeks as this FL transition settles.

CELERY remains in great supply out of Florida with competitive pricing! We should see a nice overlap in production from Florida to the West Coast, one less thing for us to all worry about.

STRAWBERRIES are in peak season in California. Pricing is higher on export fruit but the difference in quality is worth the extra few bucks. RASPBERRIES are predominantly coming out of MX and supplies are tight with market pricing trending significantly higher. BLACK and BLUEBERRIES are also moving up in price but only slightly for next week.

More as it happens,
