MARKET UPDATE 05.12.24
Good afternoon,
California STONE FRUIT is starting up! CHERRIES, PEACHES and NECTARINES are the first flavorful fruits to flock from the West Coast that we will have available NEXT WEEK. Double check your order guides this week and make sure to not miss out on the first week of the domestic stone fruit season.
North Florida and South Georgia spring crops like ZUCCHINI, YELLOW SQUASH, CABBAGE, and BELL PEPPER have started, giving way to better availability in the south east. With overlap in supply in both southern states as well as Mexico and Texas, the domestic market on these items has become competitive.
There are always outliers, however, as GREEN CABBAGE supplies are readily available in FL and GA, RED and SAVOY CABBAGE are just getting started up north and came to an early end here in South Florida. Pricing has not shot up on these items but bringing in export quality has been an issue on SAVOY CABBAGE.
NAVEL ORANGE supplies are nearly finished for the season as we prepare to transition over to the VALENCIA variety. There will be no supply gap between the two varieties but we do expect to see availability tighten up on medium to smaller sized fruit. Outlook on 113 size fruit looks to be an issue through the summer so we will have to keep our eye on the ORANGES!
The LIME market has begun its descent as Cinco de Mayo has passed and the summer months approach. We continue to see increased overall availability as weather trends become more favorable for accelerated growth. The crop is currently peaking in the 230's and 200's. Large sizes are still limited in supply.
EXPORT STRAWBERRY packs are now available in Santa Maria, Oxnard, Watsonville, and Salinas. The overlap in supply is a great thing for market pricing as there is more than enough fruit to go around. We should start loading Northern Fruit in the next few weeks.
More as it happens,
