MARKET UPDATE 06.09.24

Good afternoon,

Costa Rican PINEAPPLE have seen warmer weather from the tropical climate causing fruit to mature faster than normal. We are seeing fruit with less shelf life than normal but still in good condition.

SQUASH and PEPPER out of Georgia are extremely scarce, especially YELLOW SQUASH and ZUCCHINI. Markets shot up in the middle of the week as production out of Northern Florida continued to decline. We are looking at demand exceeding supplies on ZUCCHINI and YELLOW SQUASH for at least another two weeks.

Next week will be our last week with California CHERRIES. A recent cold front in Washington pushed back supplies for a few days but forecasts and shippers have indicated that warmer weather will hit this weekend and push fruit along nicely. Washington cherries are peaking around 9-10.5 row and reports are of great quality, so there should be plenty of properly sized retail fruit to go around.

CALIFORNIA GRAPES have started in a light way! There are decent supplies of RED and GREEN SEEDLESS out of Mexico as well, helping bring market pricing down. All signs are pointing to a healthy start to the season where we will see the continuation of a two tiered market for another week or two and then things should settle.

LETTUCE markets continue to struggle this week as shippers have run short on supplies yet again. For the next week or so, we expect to see higher temps reach around 70F. That should help supplies progress and ease markets but the way this season has started, we will have to just wait and see.

CALIFORNIA CITRUS is transitioning as we are right in between NAVEL and VALENCIA ORANGES. We are also seeing shortages on domestic LEMONS and quality issues on late season California CLEMENTINES. We should be into IMPORT easy peel fruit exclusively next week.

More as it happens,
