MARKET UPDATE 07.26.24
Good afternoon,
California PEAR season is starting! We are just seeing early BOSC, BARTLETT, and STARKRIMSON PEARS hit the market providing some competition for Argentina imports. We will start to see ANJOU availability significantly decrease over the next few weeks as Washington growers scrape up the corners of their CA rooms and importers sell out ahead of the new domestic crop in Late August early September. BARTLETT PEARS will be our only green pear option around the start of August as we await the fall harvest.
APPLE supplies are on a similar trajectory. Washington and East Coast growers will continue to clear out the last of their controlled atmosphere rooms over the next month to make room for the new crops of the fall harvest. Heading to the end of the season, GALAS, GRANNY SMITH, and GOLD APPLES are reported to be in short supply with the possibility of gaps on certain high demand sizes. As for new crops, GALAS, GOLDS, GRANNY SMITH, and HONEYCRISP will start in AUGUST while RED and FUJI apples won’t start up until SEPTEMBER.
Washington CHERRIES have just a few weeks left. Supplies are expected to continue through the week of August 5th but beginning August 12th, we are in uncharted territory! We have the good fortune, or good strategy, of being partnered with a grower who has high elevation orchards with better quality and availability later in the season.
CELERY markets are competitive as supplies from both the west coast and Canada are in good shape. All of the heat is bringing on product quickly on the west coast so we may need to anticipate tighter supplies on the back end of the season.
CANTALOUPE and HONEYDEW are of good quality and good supplies! Smaller sizes are not as frequently available so the deals to be had are on 9-12ct CANTALOUPES and 6ct HONEYDEWS.
More as it happens,
