MARKET UPDATE DEC 28-31, 2020
Good Afternoon,
GPS would like to wish you all a wonderful Holiday and a Happy New Year. Your support through such a difficult year has helped make a difference in all the families that make up the backbone of GPS. Thank you for all that you do, and we look forward to continuing our partnership into 2021!
TOMATOES remain extremely tight! Round tomatoes have okay supply while GRAPE and ROMA tomatoes are worse off than they were last week. Due to low availability and an uncertain holiday demand, markets remain on the rise into next week.
WATERMELON markets are higher this week. Most domestic growing regions are far too cold this time of year, so we must depend on MX supplies. Like cantaloupes and honeydews, WATERMELON prices are up due to shortages from importers.
We should see some NECTARINES and APRICOTS next week!
BROCCOLI markets have improved marginally. CAULIFLOWER supplies are still struggling through the cooler temperatures and because of that, market pricing is much higher.
RED and YELLOW PEPPER markets remain strong this week and we are about two weeks away from new crop out of Sinaloa, MX. GREEN BELL pepper supplies are seeing cooler weather this weekend here in Florida which should lead to slower growth rates and a slight tightening of supply.
Due to the holiday schedule for the next two weeks, some PINEAPPLE shippers are bringing in less supply. Smaller sizes are limited so please be flexible on sizing to help get orders covered.
CELERY markets are moving up! Just as we predicted a few weeks ago, supplies have drastically slowed in Southern California while Yuma celery is slow to produce due to the cold weather. Larger sizes are in better supply so many shippers are subbing into 30 and 24ct celery to cover orders.
**IMPORTANT**
EGG SUPPLIERS will not be releasing any prices until tomorrow. On this list, the egg prices will be listed as âMKTâ. We will release another price list as soon as we get confirmation on egg prices for next week.
Wishing everyone a Happy Holiday and New Year,
Parker Tannehill
