MARKET UPDATE FEB 15-19, 2021
Good Afternoon,
Thanks to warmer conditions in Arizona, BROCCOLI supplies are surging past demand, keeping prices low for at least another week. Growing regions out of both Arizona and Mexico are producing good quality product, and lots of it!
LETTUCE, GREEN LEAF, ROMAINE, and ROMAINE HEARTS are all in good supply for the next week or so. Good news can be hard to come by, so take advantage of the excellent quality and low prices while mother nature is on our side.
GRAPE importers have been warning us of rain damaged fruit from Chile for a few weeks now. We have yet to see any trouble, but the market is beginning to press higher with the assumption that supply shortages lie ahead.
LIME prices have steadily increased over the past few weeks. Current growing regions are seeing an early end to the season thanks to heavy rains in Mexico. This upward price trend looks continue as we are about a month away from any new harvests.
Warmer conditions in MEXICO have helped TOMATO markets soften. FLORIDA supplies are going to be slow to recover from the freezing temperatures of the past few weeks, but heavy supplies out of Mexico are going to dominate the market, forcing FL growers into a losing price battle. Look for ROUND, ROMA, and GRAPE TOMATO prices to come off this week.
STRAWBERRIES were a nightmare last week but hopefully we have turned the corner. Aside from some rain early in the week, supplies look to be recovering thanks to a slight warming trend. With only 6-8 weeks left for Florida Strawberry growers, we should see a ton of fruit available in the coming weeks.
More as it happens,
