MARKET UPDATE MAR 28-APR 1, 2022
Good afternoon,
GRAPES are in good supply. Consistent arrivals out of Chile are helping to keep the market competitive. RED and BLACK seedless grapes are readily available while GREEN seedless are slightly scarce. Prices should remain steady for at least another few weeks.
LETTUCE and LEAF prices are coming off! In early March, we warned that supplies would be incredibly light until April. Well, here we are just a few days from April and relief is on the way! HURON California started with ICEBERG this week, helping shippers catch up to demand. ROMAINE prices have responded as well, but we won.t see a significant change in the ROMAINE market until Northern California harvests begin in another week or so.
CANTALOUPES and HONEYDEWS continue their run of healthy supply. The influx of fruit continues, and now we have the luxury of availability on smaller sizes. 12ct CANTALOUPE and 6ct HONEYDEW are in good supply and priced to sell.
TOMATO growing regions in both Mexico and Florida are beginning to gap. As the season progresses and the weather warms, growing areas further north begin their early season production, while farms to the south wind down. Sometimes there is a perfect overlap in supply and other times production will gap. Markets have been stuck at the U.S mandatory price floor for a few weeks, so expect growers and shippers to squeeze some capital out of this transition and push prices higher.
Easter is coming up and the egg market is beginning to react. Limited supplies over the last several weeks paired with holiday demand should equate to EGG PRICES RISING in the coming weeks.
CELERY supplies continue to decline in YUMA, leaving Florida and Southern California as the main points of supply with decent availability. The market is setting up higher but there is not much price action this week.
More as it happens,
