MARKET UPDATE NOV 16-22, 2020

Good Afternoon,

Hurricane Eta has caused significant damage in Central America and here in Florida. To make matters worse, the current projection has the storm set to come right back and hit Florida again, this time

around the Tampa area. Massive amounts of rain have flooded South Florida and reports out of Guatemala and Honduras are even worse.

FLORIDA LETTUCE, LEAF, and STRAWBERRIES were all right around the corner. Unfortunately, LETTUCE fields here in South Florida saw significant rain, pushing back harvests another few weeks. Most

Florida Strawberry fields are located near Plant City, Fl, which sits right in the center of Eta's projected path. Time will tell how bad the damage is, but we are already planning on delays until

December.

TOMATOES will see severe loss to supply from Eta's heavy downpour. Markets were just starting to improve on the promise of Florida supplies picking up, but the storm has put a stop to that. We will

be watching the situation closely, but it looks like TOMATO markets are going to shoot back up to higher price levels due to lack of supply.

SQUASH, PEPPER, and most commodities out of Florida will see a lot of volatility this coming week!

IMPORT MELONS have started to arrive here in South Florida. There are delays on both the shipping and receiving end due to flood waters. Early season fruit is never going to be as sweet as mid or

late season fruit, so expect a little less flavor from the new crop.

Hurricane Eta has brought on short supplies for FRENCH BEANS, SNOWS, SNAPS, and BABY SQUASH. Severe flooding will affect these commodities for at least the next few weeks.

BROCCOLI, CAULIFLOWER, LETTUCE and ROMAINE are all seeing some activity this week. As supplies linger in Northern California, low temperatures and frost have damaged crops. The LETTUCE and LEAF in

Yuma is of good quality, but prices have moved up due to the problems growers are seeing in California.  BROCCOLI and CAULIFLOWER are experiencing the same conditions, leading to slower production.

Keep your eyes out for our WEEKLY FRESH this week, featuring some great November deals!

More as it happens,
