MARKET UPDATE NOVEMBER 8-12, 2021

Good afternoon,

Late season pressures are abundant this time of year. The Salinas Valley is nearing the end of production, Canadian harvests are winding down, and commodities in Mexico are shifting farther south and to lower elevation. We are in the thick of the fall transition, and as production moves to warmer climates for the winter, the starts and stops between growing areas will provide some seasonal challenges.

BROCCOLI supply looks to have found its footing in Salinas, settling markets down into more normal levels. We anticipate mild conditions this week in Northern California, which should lead to market pricing coming off into next week. CAULIFLOWER trends should follow a week or two behind BROCCOLI.

LETTUCE and LEAF markets will remain at their peak next week. While pricing remains astronomically high, we have a few growers harvesting new fields in YUMA, ARIZONA this week. That is a favorable sign of things to come and should lead to pricing relief towards the end of next week.

TOMATO supplies are showing signs of life! We are seeing new areas of production get started in Mexico, California, and most importantly for us, Florida. As long as Mother Nature approves, we will see increased supplies bring pricing relief to TOMATO markets over the next few weeks.

BELL PEPPER supplies are on a similar trend. New growing areas, like Jalisco, Mexico, are starting up in a light way. Pricing is holding steady, but the trend is there for better markets in the weeks ahead. GREEN BELL pepper pricing has come off this week thanks to favorable growing conditions in Georgia.

Supply chain constraints have become a post pandemic problem for nearly every industry. IMPORT supplies are seeing increased delays at the port, lowering availability on commodities coming out of Central and South America, like CALABAZA and many others. We are on the verge of increased import supplies and holiday goods hitting the ports here in South Florida. Hopefully, the local supply chains can handle the influx.

We are bringing in fresh ORGANICS straight from the farms every single week! We are looking to increase our position in the organic market, so please let us know what we can do to help you grow your organic program!

More as it happens,
