MARKET UPDATE WEEK # 14 - 2020
Good Afternoon,
We hope that you all remain safe and in good health. With more uncertainty lying ahead, it is more important than ever that we all remain calm and sensible in our approach to the current situation. The state of Florida is under lockdown. During this period, people are advised to stay home aside from essential travel, including but not limited to; picking up medication, traveling to receive medical attention, and leaving your home for essentials like food and groceries. The need for produce, meat and dairy allows us to continue our operation as a food distribution center in South Florida.
Under the parameters of this lockdown, Global Perishable Services remains fully operational.
Transition has been a bit easier this season as demand on most goods has been cut to record lows. LETTUCE, ROMAINE, ROMAINE HEARTS, BROCCOLI, CAULIFLOWER, and almost all commodities out west are in a supply surplus. Look for aggressive pricing on a stable of goods.
CANTALOUPE and HONEYDEWS are in a very similar position to west coast veg. Importers are doing whatever it takes to get product moving. Retail demand has dropped off as well as the complete loss of foodservice demand. Keep an eye out for some great deals on melons for the month of April.
With the news of nation-wide curfews and lockdowns, consumers went crazy for value added hard goods like 10/5# potatoes and 48/1# carrots. That demand has subsided slightly, and shippers have taken new measures to improve their availability on those items. 10/5# POTATOES are still going to be limited but retail pack CARROTS are looking to come off a bit sooner.
GARLIC and GINGER are still in high demand. Get your bulk orders in early so we can account for your needs!
Markets are mostly moving downward. So, if you are worried about a price please just call and ask!
Please remember next week all shipments will need to be completed by Thursday in observance of Good Friday. Please get your orders and outside vendors in early to help keep our team safe at home as much as possible.
Stay safe everyone and please do not hesitate to call us for anything!
