MARKET UPDATE WEEK # 22 - 2020
Good Afternoon.
Steady supplies out of California continue this week. STRAWBERRIES look to be bountiful while BROCCOLI and CAULIFLOWER are in decent supply. LETTUCE and LEAF are just a bit behind demand with some shippers experiencing a gap in production. With some great weather in the forecast for next week, expect some better quality and steady pricing.
GREEN BELL PEPPERS are finishing up in South Florida. North Florida and Georgia have started to harvest pepper but supplies are all over the place. We will have a better idea next week if the northern production will be enough to satisfy demand.
CABBAGE supplies are still tight this week. We are expecting another few weeks of elevated pricing until Georgia supplies really get going around early to mid-June.
Next week looks to be the last week for FLORIDA ORANGES. Please plan to switch over to CALIFORNIA ORANGES starting the first week of June. SMALL ORANGES out of California are still in short supply so we may see some elevated markets. We will keep a close eye on demand through this transition.
The Farmers to Families food box program is still shaking up markets on a several items. BAGGED APPLES will be in short supply until the fall crop rolls around. CARROTS are also tight due to the USDA program and Georgia harvests wrapping up. Bagged POTATO and ONION markets are starting to get tight as well!
GRAPES are still transitioning from Chilean fruit, to Mexico and California product. We have already made the switch on GREEN SEEDLESS, and RED SEEDLESS are next up. Look for pricing to increase as we move into new crop.
STONE FRUIT and CHERRIES are on the move! Get your orders in early so we can account for your needs. PEACHES, APRICOTS, NECTARINES, PLUMS, and CHERRIES are ready to ship.
More as it happens,
