MARKET UPDATE WEEK # 26 - 2020
Good Afternoon,
BLUEBERRIES followed the exact trend we pointed out last week. Rain in the Carolinas and Georgia all but wiped out supplies. Mexican blues make up most of what is available right now and quality is fair. Smaller sizing and some minor issues are apparent, but MX blues are the best option until Jersey berries are available in a week or so.
ZUCCHINI, YELLOW SQUASH, CABBAGE, and GREEN BELL PEPPER are seeing the same rain up in Georgia and the Carolinas. Markets on SQUASH and CABBAGE have been tough for a few weeks, but it looks like GREEN PEPPER is next up for an increase.
SMALLER sizing on carrots continues to keep the JUMBO CARROT market elevated.
GREEN and RED SEEDLESS markets are coming off. Availability is getting better in Mexico and California. Look for conditions to continue to improve as we get deeper into the season. RED GLOBES are going to gap for a few weeks. New crop should be available around July.
CAULIFLOWER remains scarce out in California. Volumes seem to be getting slightly better, but it might be a few more weeks before this slow growth commodity catches up.
BROCCOLI sits in a similar situation. Supplies tightened up two weeks ago and production still has not caught up to demand. Heat issues took a lot of volume out of the pipeline and shippers have not recovered from the loss. Markets have been going up and will continue going up this week.
CHERRIES hit a supply gap this past week. Heavy rain stopped production, leaving tons of orders on hold. Volume seems to be catching back up, but high prices are anticipated into July. We will have plenty of volume available this week.
ASPARAGUS markets are up. Light volumes out of Peru and California are pushing prices up for next week.
ANJOU PEARS are finishing up in Washington. We are stocking up on smaller sizing so next week might be a good time for you to do the same!
Chile is in full swing on KIWI. Great volume as well as great deals available!
CANTALOUPES are tough to come by while HONEYDEWS are a bit easier to source. Conditions are improving which is why we are seeing most of the supply in LARGER SIZES.
