MARKET UPDATE WEEK #3 2020

Good Afternoon,

West Coast VEGETABLE markets are still all over the place! As of today, LETTUCE markets seem to be coming off, but with the recent weather patterns anything is possible. BROCCOLI and CAULIFLOWER are still VERY TIGHT. The SLOWER growth commodities will take a bit longer to rebound from the light yields we have been seeing. Overall, veg on the west coast has been a challenge for the past few weeks. It seems that conditions are getting better, hopefully we will be able to say the same for the product in a few weeks!

The GREEN ONION market remains upside-down for yet another week. Most of the supply comes from YUMA and MEXICO this time of year and both areas have seen less than favorable conditions. Suppliers are prorating orders and holding customers to 10-week averages. We have so far been able to cover all orders but please be advised of the shortage and higher pricing!

SPINACH and ARUGULA are also in prorate situations. Please send in your orders on these items as early as possible.

SMALL ORANGES are getting tight! Demand has picked up on the smaller fruit as schools get back from the holiday.

RED and BLACK GRAPES are extremely TIGHT right now. We are a week or so removed from the end of domestic GRAPE season and the market has started to notice. We are still a few weeks away from IMPORT harvests catching up to demand. PERU is the main supply right now but we should see some relief as CHILEAN arrivals start to pick up.

CANTALOPES are in good supply. It seems like every melon importer in South Florida has a ton of fruit and is looking to deal. HONEYDEWS are not in as good of a situation. Supplies are tight but we have not seen any drastic shortages.

BARTLETT PEARS are done for the season. Although Bartlett's are not a popular item for us, the disappearance of the fruit will force buyers to substitute BOSC or D'ANJOU. Watch for some MARKET ACTIVITY for BOSC and D'ANJOU PEARS!

TOMATOES are still tight! Supplies look to be slowly improving in Florida, but a drastic change will be completely dependant on the weather over the next week or so.

Plenty of items are still in great supply! Keep an eye on your email for our Weekly Fresh which will have some great deals for next week.

More as it happens,
Parker Tannehill
