MARKET UPDATE APRIL 12-16, 2021
Good Afternoon,
A smooth transition continues this week as several commodities are in good supply out west. BROCCOLI and CAULIFLOWER are abundant, while LETTUCE and LEAF supplies are overlapping in Arizona and California.
RED, YELLOW, and ORANGE BELL PEPPER are in a supply surplus. Market pricing is competitive with promotable volumes available.
Chilean STONE FRUIT is on the way out, with just BLACK PLUMS left. We are getting close to the end of the season, so get them while they are available!
GREEN SKIN and HASS AVOCADO supplies are running short! The large green skin avocadoes are out of season here in South Florida, and Dominican imports have been hit or miss on quality. HASS avocadoes are also in short supply, especially on the larger sizes.
STRAWBERRIES have had a tough transition out west. Inclement weather and strong demand have pushed pricing up. Availability is light and most orders are being prorated. Quality will improve next week as we will have EXPORT LABEL DRISCOLL'S STRAWBERRIES. The pricing is a touch higher, as specific crews harvest this fruit a few days early, but the improved quality will put your product well ahead of your competitors.
We will see fresh arrivals of PERUVIAN ASPARAGUS later next week. The market has remained competitive and with product being flown in to Miami, we should see an improvement on quality as well. Mexican supplies will wrap up in the next few weeks so this market will start to trend higher as we get closer to Mother's Day.
RED GRAPES out of Chile continue to be the safer option in comparison to GREEN. Supplies on green varieties are lighter and have a higher possibility of quality issues.
WATERMELON supplies remain tight for this coming week. We expect supplies out of Florida to be available the week of APRIL 19th.
Keep an eye out for our WEEKLY FRESH specials!
