MARKET UPDATE DEC 07-11, 2020

Good Afternoon,

Finally, we are seeing significant changes in vegetable supplies off the West Coast. After what many shippers have called the most difficult 4 months of their career, PRICING is coming off and
QUALITY is getting better!

LETTUCE and ROMAINE prices have dropped and with some favorable weather for the next week or so, we should see this trend continue.

BROCCOLI, CAULIFLOWER, and other vegetables out of California are mostly moving in the same direction!

Cool weather in Florida this week should slow down some production but help quality. STRAWBERRY production will drop but the fruit harvested should be very nice for shipping next week.

CIRTUS also requires cool nights to ripen, so hopefully the chilly evenings will help develop some better flavor in Florida ORANGES.

CANTALOUPE and HONEYDEWS are almost fully switched over to imports. There is some uncertainty in the quality of supply we will be seeing in the coming weeks, but for now quality is good and favoring
larger sizes.

Good supplies out of PERU and MEXICO are helping ASPARAGUS markets remain competitive. We may see a holiday push on this item in the coming weeks.

COLORED BELLS are starting to transition south but growers are seeing some production issues. As we get further into the Southern MX season over the next few weeks, we should see some better pricing
and product.

FLORIDA TOMATO supplies are picking up but there is some fruit with trouble caused by the heavy rains of mid-November. The overall production should be stronger this week, but the occasional tomato
with too much water may present itself.

PURPLE GARLIC out of Argentina has helped the garlic market soften. Quality is good and product is ready to move!

Keep an eye on your email for the Weekly Fresh this week that will be sporting some fine specials!

More as it happens,
