MARKET UPDATE MAR 1-5, 2021

Good Afternoon,

APPLES out of New York and Michigan will see an early end to this season. New York supplies are already thin, forcing buyers to look to Michigan to cover orders. As the year progresses, demand moves further West due to year-round availability out of Washington. Thanks to lighter production, USDA programs, and increased demand in the retail sector, APPLE SUPPLIES will TIGHTEN up much sooner than in years past.

ASPARAGUS continues to be a great item to put on ad! Supplies are strong out of Peru and Mexico. We expect this trend to continue for the next few weeks.

GREEN BELL PEPPER is in good supply here in Florida. We are seeing a slight warming trend this week that will help maintain production and keep markets competitive.

FLORIDA STRAWBERRIES are seeing some better volume this week. While the warmer weather is going to help production and pricing, it will also lead to softer fruit. Prices are going to come down for the last few weeks of the season but please be mindful when ordering strawberries as we are entering the END OF THE SEASON. The fruit in the coming weeks will be more RIPE than weeks past.

YELLOW SQUASH and ZUCCHINI markets are split! Markets moved up slightly this week but there are cheap deals on less than ideal product.

TOMATO markets have hit rock bottom. Despite freezing growing conditions in Florida last month, the supply surplus out of Mexico is so strong that Mexican exporters are selling ROMA TOMATOES at the government mandated minimum. Florida growers are dropping their prices just to compete and keep supplies moving.

Demand on LETTUCE and ROMAINE remains weak. We continue to see solid production thanks to seasonable conditions in Arizona growing regions. Look for another week of competitive pricing for lettuce and leaf!

More as it happens,
