MARKET UPDATE MAR 08-12, 2021

Good Afternoon,

We are nearing the end of Florida STRAWBERRY season. With just a few weeks left, be prepared for occasional ripeness in STRAWBERRIES and please use your patience in understanding that we are all working to get through this transition.

BEEFSTAKE TOMATOES, TOV'S, HOT HOUSE PEPPERS, and SNACKING TOMATOES are all seeing demand outpace supplies. The Texas freeze caused a massive energy shortage. Natural gasses were diverted to residential areas, leaving greenhouses out in the cold. The cold weather slowed production down, bringing on a supply shortage that should last a few weeks.

ASPARAGUS should remain in a supply surplus next week.

KIWI is coming in slowly from Italy and Greece. Shorter supplies have led to market prices increasing weekly. We are just over a month away from new crops and more ample supplies.

ONION crops were severely damaged by the freeze in Texas. Short supplies plus higher freight costs equal a jump in prices on onions.

As the price of gas rises, the cost of transportation goes up with it. The impact may go unnoticed at first, but the rising cost of trucking is sure to disrupt markets in the coming weeks.

LETTUCE and LEAF markets remain stable heading into next week. Strong supplies and weak demand for leafy greens are keeping markets in check.

CAULIFLOWER markets are on the rise. Our approach to the end of the season in YUMA has commenced, and with it, we are seeing some markets get active.

Plenty of shippers have reserves on BROCCOLI, but we expect supplies to tighten and pricing to increase early next week.

More as it happens,
