MARKET UPDATE MAR 15-19, 2021

Good Afternoon,

With the first day of spring only 10 days away, we are starting to see signs of the seasonal transition. Several commodities will finish out their harvest by the end of the month. As we should all know by now, seasonal transitions often bring tight markets and volatile quality.

STRAWBERRIES are nearing the end of the Florida season. Look for ripe fruit to be an issue for the next 2-3 weeks, or until we see some better fruit coming out of CALIFORNIA. Keep your STRAWBERRY inventories VERY COLD and make sure you maintain a proper cold chain to avoid further quality issues.

CANTALOUPE supplies are in good shape. We are seeing decent volume in the market which has led to more competitive pricing. HONEYDEW markets are moving slightly in the opposite direction due to shorter supplies out of Mexico.

LIME prices continue to skyrocket. Supplies are gapping and we are still seeing some adverse effects from the winter storm a few weeks back. This trend will continue for at least another few weeks.

Panamanian PINEAPPLES are plentiful and priced for profits! Supplies out of Panama and Costa Rica are arriving in big numbers, creating great competition to sell. Look no further than PINEAPPLES for promotion as more delicate fruits change season.

HASS AVOCADO supplies are weak coming out of Mexico thanks to the winter storm we saw a few weeks ago. Prices are rising quickly on all sizes of HASS AVOCADO.

YUMA harvests are beginning their descent. BROCCOLI, CAULIFLOWER, LETTUCE, ROMAINE, CELERY, and other produce isle staples will finish up by the end of March or early April. SALINAS California supplies look to be on schedule for APRIL 7th but with transitions you just never know. Look for some market activity over the next 4-6 weeks on all the items mentioned above.

More as it happens,
