MARKET UPDATE MAR 22-28, 2021
Good Afternoon,
Welcome to the beginning of the end of the winter veg cycle. YUMA supplies will continue to decrease across the board until over the next few weeks. BROCCOLI and CAULIFLOWER are already being harvested in Northern Cal, but lettuce and leaf are a few weeks behind. As we near the end of the deal, expect some lighter weights and occasional discoloration on LETTUCE and LEAF products.
Overlap season has started as Mexican greenhouse veg season winds down and Canadian harvests begin. CUCUMBERS will lead the way followed shortly after by TOMATOES and finally PEPPERS. Expect to see excellent quality with promotable volume and pricing on SEEDLESS CUCUMBERS and HOT HOUSE TOMATOES in the coming weeks. It will be about a month before we see the first harvest of hot house peppers, so expect that market to remain firm through mid-April.
ASPARAGUS markets will start to tighten up in the coming weeks with the Easter pull. This coincides with the Mexican season tapering off heading into the month of April. We expect a slight bump in prices leading up to Easter, with Peruvian product gradually coming back into the forefront.
Trucks are especially tight up in Central and North Western regions,
pushing prices up on POTATOES and ONIONS.
CHERRY and GRAPE TOMATO supplies are nearly non-existent. Florida supplies are gapping while Mexican supplies struggle to keep up with demand. This trend will continue for another week or so.
STRAWBERRY supplies are winding down here in Florida. We should have another week or two left in the season before we transition to California product. Availability for the next two weeks on Florida STRAWBERRIES rests completely in Mother Nature's hands.
Keep an eye out for our WEEKLY FRESH, offering some competition killing deals on items like AVOCADO, BUTTERNUT SQUASH, and more!
More as it happens,
