MARKET UPDATE JAN 06, 2023

Good morning,

The Florida sun is shining brightly to start off the new year helping CELERY start up in a light way. A significant portion of the sunshine state’s stalk will be shipped out to ARIZONA and CALIFORNIA to help squelch the supply deficit out west. We expect CELERY supplies out of YUMA and FLORIDA to increase over the next few weeks.

CANTALOUPE and HONEYDEW supplies continue to improve. Import fruit is flush in South Florida, so start the year off with some great deals on melons! We are also on the verge of import WATERMELONS. This market has been tight for a few weeks now, but things should soften up slightly as the import fruit settles in.

BROCCOLI markets are falling for next week but not nearly as fast as CAULIFLOWER. Warm temperatures in the YUMA growing region have helped push forward tons of CAULIFLOWER this week. This is going to be one of the fastest price drops we have ever seen with pricing falling from the $50 range all the way to the $20's from one day to the next.

LETTUCE and ROMAINE continue their slide down to lower price levels. This trend has been consistent for the last few weeks but the good news bears repeating after we all struggled through $100 markets for far too long.

STONE FRUIT out of CHILE are in great supply and condition. We expect to see PLUMS arrive in another couple weeks but for now we have, PEACHES, NECTARINES, APRICOTS, and CHERRIES.

GRAPES are all but finished out of CALIFORNIA. We will see cheap pricing out of old crop CALIFORNIA, but that fruit is better left avoided. The IMPORT fruit from PERU is going to be priced slightly higher but will have far better quality and is really the only suitable GRAPE for export at this time. Once CHILEAN grapes start, we will see some pricing relief.

More as it happens,
