MARKET UPDATE NOVEMBER 21-25, 2022
Good afternoon,
The Thanksgiving push is upon us! California and Arizona veg markets continue to act like the wild west this week, and with that, we need to look at alternative items to push through the supply chain that don't cost $100 per box! Western veg costs remain on the rise this week but we might, emphasis on MIGHT, see prices start to move in the other direction after the holiday. Lettuce and romaine prices would be the first to come off with flower and broccoli to follow.
SWEET POTATOES are a holiday staple and are in great supply out of North Carolina. This consistent crop is readily available and priced to sell. If you are looking for a color break on the shelves, mix things up with a low cost, PURPLE skinned MURASAKI YAM. Murssaki's have white flesh and a delicious nutty flavor.
CABBAGE supplies continue to move south! Production out of Georgia is finally improving, leading to competitive pricing and lower transportation costs for us down in South Florida. Look for this trend to continue after the holiday.
The Chilean CHERRY crop this year looks beautiful. Our first shot of fruit is firm and sweet. Next week, we will have some CLAMSHELL CHERRIES and 11/1 lb JUMBO BAG CHERRIES as well.
APPLES look to have a difficult year ahead out of Washington. The reports all indicate a significant drop off in available volume with small fruit being more prevalent than large. Looking on the bright side, thanks to the better volume on small fruit, RED APPLE 12/3lb BAG pricing is very affordable. Check out our WEEKLY FRESH AD for a great deal on RED 12/3 APPLES next week. Forecasts may indicate a bumpy road ahead but we can still take advantage of what mother nature gives us today.
More as it happens,
