MARKET UPDATE JULY 26-30, 2021

Good afternoon,

THIS WEEK, GLOBAL PERISHABLE SERVICES CELEBRATES TEN YEARS OF SERVICE IN THE PRODUCE INDUSTRY! We would like to take this opportunity to thank our team members and loyal customer base. Our growth and success were made possible by our teamwork and shared commitment to consistency. We remain grateful for the continued support and have high hopes for the opportunities that lie ahead. Cheers!

For the past several weeks, we have made note of the transition up the east coast on vegetable commodities like EGGPLANT, ZUCCHINI, YELLOW SQUASH, CUCUMBER, CORN, and BEANS. At this point, Mexico and Michigan are the only realistic options for those commodities, and we expect to see RAIN in both growing areas late this week. MICHIGAN may see hurricane force winds and flash flood warnings starting tomorrow. The wet conditions in both growing areas will make it difficult to find good product to ship locally, let alone to ship for a week by ocean container.

PINEAPPLE importers are facing gaps in production with low volumes expected to last through the end of summer. Excessive rain is making harvesting difficult, with flood conditions in many growing regions mucking things up for workers. Luckily for us, production out of Costa Rica has been solid, seeing a 2% increase in production compared to last week. Other pineapple growing countries are not so lucky. Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico have seen about a 59% decrease in production from the week prior.

ORANGE supplies have fully transitioned into Valencia fruit for next week. This is a welcome change as quality has been less than ideal for the past several weeks, even from the big boys like Sunkist. We are also seeing an increase in CHILEAN CITRUS arrivals, which will help alleviate some pressure on both LEMON and ORANGE markets.

We hope you were reading last week because just as we mentioned, demand has picked up on CALIFORNIA VEG. Supplies are slowing and back to school demand is starting to shift the market as school programs gear up for the new year. LETTUCE, BROCCOLI, and CAULIFLOWER markets are all seeing some activity next week.

Check out our weekly fresh for next week's 10 year anniversary specials!

More as it happens,
