MARKET UPDATE June 4th, 2023

Good afternoon,

APPLE and PEAR inventories have already begun their descent for the end of the season. Domestic BOSC PEARS are completely tapped out and D'ANJOU PEARS are not far behind. Imported BOSC are available but sizing is all over the place and pricing is elevated due to the lack of availability. GRANNY SMITH and GOLD apple markets are already on the rise and we expect to see this trend continue through the summer until new crop comes around in September.

STRAWBERRIES are in great supply! Southeastern California fields are producing fruit well ahead of schedule, so markets have moved lower in recent weeks. As long as the weather permits, we expect to see favorable STRAWBERRY pricing for the next few weeks.

GRAPES have been missing in action for the last three to four weeks but there is finally some good news; Mexican fruit is FINALLY ready for harvest and we are just beginning to see the first RED SEEDLESS cross into the United States. GREEN SEEDLESS grapes are going to be the best seedless grape option in terms of price, while RED SEEDLESS varieties are just starting out and will be higher in price. We expect pricing to drop over the next several weeks as more Mexican growers have supply and some California growers get into the mix!

Speaking of California fruit, we are now into the SUMMER STONE FRUIT SEASON! Peaches, nectarines, and apricots are all available out of California and domestic plums are not too far behind. We are also fully stocked with CLAMSHELL CHERRIES and CLAMSHELL GOLDEN KIWI!

LETTUCE, LEAF, CAULIFLOWER, and BROCCOLI supplies continue to be readily available. It seems as if there is a surplus of product available so although pricing is cheap, we have to be conscious of shippers sitting on inventory. As we all know in export, even a few days of shelf life can be the difference in a sale or a dump.

More as it happens,
