MARKET UPDATE MAY 10-14, 2021

Good Afternoon,

APPLE markets are beginning to tighten up. Storage supplies are starting to thin out as growers break open their last few controlled atmosphere rooms. There is less fruit available to sort through towards the end of the season, pushing up market pricing. We expect a gradual increase in apple and pear prices until new crop starts through the months of August and September.

Green skin AVOCADOES out of the Dominican Republic are tough to come by. Availability is limited here in South Florida and we will not see FLORIDA AVOCADOES until June. HASS avocadoes are also in high demand but with better supplies.

ASPARAGUS supplies are slowing down out of Peru this week. With Mother's Day this weekend, we should see activity in the asparagus market followed by some relief in a week or two.

TOMATOES are transitioning in both Mexico and Florida. In Florida, we are seeing supplies move up the state, bringing higher freight costs and transitioning supplies into play. Over in Mexico, crops are finishing in Culiacan and moving for higher elevation. Pricing is trending higher on TOMATOES.

PINEAPPLE markets continue to show steady pricing and availability with deals available.

CAULIFLOWER markets remain tight but are starting to show some signs of availability. Shippers continue to tout a high price tag, but there is certainly more product to go around than last week. We should start to see some relief in CAULIFLOWER pricing heading into next week.

LETTUCE and LEAF production remains strong for yet another week with good quality, pricing, and availability. See the Weekly Fresh this week for a great deal on ROMAINE HEARTS!

WATERMELON is in great supply here in Florida. Check out our Weekly Fresh specials for a sweet deal on watermelon!
