MARKET UPDATE WEEK # 6 - 2020

Good Afternoon,

Heavy rainfall and wind blew through Mexico this week. As this system moved over our neighbors to the south, it ravaged several commodities: STRAWBERRIES, PEPPER, BLUEBERRIES, SQUASH, WATERMELON, TOMATOES, and EGGPLANT, just to name a few. Mexico is a major player in production this time of year, so we should expect to see some supply driven headaches next week! The lower portion of this gigantic system looks to move through Florida tonight. Our hope is that the weaker bottom half of this system doesn't do too much damage!

ASPARAGUS markets are starting to settle. Production out of Mexico seems to have dodged the rain as we are seeing production increase daily. PERU supply is finishing up for the season making the east coast market slightly higher than what we are seeing out west.

STRAWBERRIES looked to be in a good spot for the upcoming holiday until the heavy downpour this week. DRISCOLL'S will be TROUBLE as their entire central Mexico production was cancelled this week due to EXCESSIVE RAIN DAMAGE. The very same rain system is going to pass through north Florida today. We will have to wait and see what production looks like once the rain settles.

As of last week, it looked like SQUASH, EGGPLANT, PEPPER, TOMATO, and other eastern veg commodities were on their way back to steady supply. Unfortunately, mother nature has put a stop to that! Growers have jacked up prices today with HEAVY RAINFALL looming over the state. Hopefully, the showers pass without too much damage and give growers some time to recover.

LIGHT VOLUME on PLUMS is expected through next week although we are still seeing moderate supplies trickle in. PEACHES and NECTARINES are in much better supply and readily available. We should see production continue to improve next week.

HONEYDEWS and CANTALOUPES remain in good supply. Import volumes continue to cross and pricing is still competitive.

SHORTER SUPPLIES on BLACK, BLUE, and RASPBERRIES will continue next week.

CALIFORNIA veg looks to be primed for another solid week of production. There have been a few growers tighten up on lettuce and leaf due to some cooler than expected weather, but for the most part things look to be in good shape. BROCCOLI, CAULIFLOWER, LETTUCE, and LEAF are all in good
supply for next week!

More as it happens,
