MARKET UPDATE JUNE 13-17, 2022

Good afternoon,

PEAR inventories are shrinking daily as we approach the end of the 2022 season. BOSC PEARS are seeing the worst of it and are nearly non-existent out of Washington. Import supplies are few and far between, so BOSC PEAR pricing is on the rise with ANJOUS eventually to follow.

The gap in supply of SMALL APPLES is going to widen as we get closer to August. Over the next 10 weeks, we will see APPLE supplies shrink and prices rise. Quality issues may also pose a threat late in the deal, so keep your inventories lean until NEW CROP comes around in late August.

WARMER weather in northern California continues and commodities like LETTUCE, LEAF, and BROCCOLI are loving it. While summer heat can create issues like tip burn and occasional browning, we are not seeing many quality defects at the moment and reaping the benefits of a fast paced production cycle. Take advantage of lower market pricing while it lasts!

RUSSET POTATOES will be tight in the US for the next several weeks. Shippers are getting low on inventory of Idaho, Colorado, and Washington storage potatoes. Canada is flush with product and will help fill gaps in supply until the next big potato harvest in July but expect markets to remain snug until then.

CHERRIES are finished up in California and we have about a two week supply gap until Washington fruit gets going. Washington cherries suffered through severe weather during this year's growing cycle. Reports for this year's harvest are shockingly low, with some growers reporting as low as 40% production compared to average. Market pricing will be high when Washington starts but the good news is that the fruit available is said to be high quality.

ASPARAGUS is abundant out of Peru and markets will remain low for the next week or so. But, be wary of "too good to be true" prices as some shippers who are sitting on older product attempt to clean out coolers.

CELERY pricing has been unsettlingly high for the last month or so. We are finally seeing some relief as northern California supplies are starting just as the school demand is dropping off. This market is going to continue to slide next week and continue to improve as Michigan and Canadian supplies pop up later in the summer.

PLUMS, APRICOTS, PEACHES , and NECTARINES are all in good supply out of California. We have fresh stone fruit in volume fill and RETAIL POUCHES in stock, inseason, and ready to sell next week!

More as it happens,
